The 31st Saitama Lifeline Charity Film Screening “Samurai Time Slipper” 2026 in Japan Ticket

Overview

Experience the incredible indie sensation Samurai Time Slipper (A Samurai in Time), a film that has captured hearts across Japan and won the 48th Japan Academy Film Prize for Best Film. Directed by Junichi Yasuda, who remarkably handled twelve different production roles himself, this “fish-out-of-water” comedy pays a moving tribute to the jidaigeki (period drama) genre. The story follows a real Aizu samurai from the Edo period who is struck by lightning and awakens in a modern-day Kyoto film studio, where he begins a new life as a kirareyaku—an actor specializing in being “cut down” in sword fights.

Starring Makiya Yamaguchi in a nuanced and earnest performance, the film balances hilarious culture shocks with a poignant exploration of honor and the passage of time. As a special charity event for the Saitama Lifeline (Saitama Inochi no Denwa), this screening supports vital suicide prevention and mental health services in Japan. Whether you are a fan of classic samurai cinema or heartwarming human dramas, this award-winning masterpiece offers a unique theatrical experience that celebrates living life to the fullest.
