Background
The Takarazuka Revue is a legendary all-female theater troupe that has captivated audiences for over a century. Within its five-troupe structure, the Moon Troupe (Tsukigumi) is uniquely distinguished for its commitment to “theatrical realism” and intense emotional storytelling. This specific production of “RYOFU” explores the complex morality and strength of Lu Bu, a historical figure often portrayed as a villain, reimagining him through the romantic and heroic lens that only Takarazuka can provide.
Significance is further added by the second act, “Crystal Palace,” which represents the traditional “Revue” aspect of the performance. It features a transition from intense historical drama to a shimmering world of song and dance, culminating in the iconic walk down the grand staircase. For fans, the Chiakiraku (final day) performance is the most significant event of the season, representing both a celebration of the production’s success and a poignant farewell to the roles developed by the performers during the run.
