Description

Overview

The Shinshu Zenkoji Rogaining 2025 is a beginner-friendly outdoor navigation event held on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Nagano City Art Museum (1613 Tsuruga Midori-cho, Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture, Japan). Organized by the Nagano Prefecture Orienteering Association, co-organized by Nagano City, and supported by Zenkoji Temple, this is the 7th Rogaining event in Nagano City (https://nagano-orienteering.com/naganoshi/). Centered around the historic Zenkoji Temple area, a 7th-century Buddhist landmark housing Japan’s oldest Buddha statue (), the event spans the temple town and a 200m elevation mountain range with panoramic city views. Participants navigate checkpoints using a 1:20,000 scale B4 map (10m contours, Geospatial Information Authority of Japan-based) in 3-hour Men’s Solo, Women’s Solo, Group (2–5 people, 16+), and Family (2–5 people, including at least one under 15) divisions. The participation fee is 2,000 yen/high school and above, 1,000 yen/elementary or junior high, and free for preschoolers (Family division, application required). The event has a capacity of 300 people, with registration open from July 28 to September 30, 2025, via the official website. Awards include top three per class (Men’s Solo, Women’s Solo, Group, Family) with T-shirts as participation prizes. Described on X as “a thrilling way to explore Nagano’s temple town and autumn scenery,” the event offers urban and mountain navigation, cultural immersion near Zenkoji Temple, and fall colors with fruit and autumn leaves (,). A free Rogaining seminar (8:20–9:00 AM) ensures accessibility for beginners.
