Yagiyama Ensemble’s Musical History
The Yagiyama Ensemble holds a place in Japan’s music history. Coming out of Sendai’s acoustic music scene in the 1970s the band built a loyal following across the region and the country. They blended the storytelling style of folk with the strong rhythms and steel guitar sounds of American country-rock. After their major-label debut with Nippon Columbia Records in 1976 they stayed true to their roots in the north. They kept performing in Sendai. Became a central part of Miyagi’s local music life. For than fifty years the group has been active without stopping. Their music tells stories, about the lands, traditions and spirit of Japan.
